If you are unclear on what kind of
dog (breed, type, energy level, age) would fit into your family,
but you aren't ready to give up on having a dog altogether,
fostering for Pals For Paws, might be the answer for you. If you
are a dog or cat lover with room to share, or if you don't
want a life time commitment to a pet but love animals, fostering
might be the answer for you. Foster homes are a much
needed resource, and always welcome. If you want to help save
the lives of dogs, or cats becoming a foster home is just one
way to help.
About Foster Programs
What does a foster home do?
A foster is a temporary placement for dogs or
cats in a
rescue. The foster home will be responsible for basic
housetraining (if needed), socialization, health care (if
needed), and temperament assessment of a placed dog.
What about expenses?
All expenses are paid by Pals For Paws, food, vet
visits, shots and spay/neuter.
How long does a foster dog/cat stay?
This can vary greatly. An older dog or cat in the golden
years of his life may be with you until the end, but a puppy or
kitten may
only be in your home for a few weeks. You decide how long , how
many days weeks or months you have to offer.
What if the foster dog/cat
doesn't get along with others in the family?
If this happens, you must notify
us. We will help you overcome the situation,
whether it requires additional training, or
another placement. We will take care not to
place a dog with you that are not ready to
handle.
Can
I keep the dog/cat I foster if I want to?
Yes, you certainly can, in almost
every situation. It happens quite often, and I
suspect is one of the reasons that foster homes
are in short supply.
Fostering is one of the most
rewarding things you can do to help animals in
need. If you would like more
information or if you would like to speak to one
of our fosterers to get an idea of how it's
working for them. Please call us at:
